neighbours day aotearoa 2015

The Summer of Neighbourliness aims to encourage and inspire neighbourliness all year round by offering opportunities for neighbours to connect during the warm summer months.

Neighbourliness results in stronger communities and this in turn translates into all sorts of benefits including:

• Support in times of need
• Local business benefits
• An increase in safety and positive wellbeing.

These are also things that Libraries bring to communities. It mightn’t be the most obvious thing to consider, but public libraries make great neighbours.

Public libraries sit at the very heart of their communities. They help to create a sense of belonging, responding to the needs of the locals who use them. Public libraries help young people develop imagination and creativity, providing adults with opportunities to learn about their cultural heritage, the arts as well as science/technology. Public libraries enrich and strengthen the communities they are a part of.

Public Libraries of New Zealand see’s Neighbours Day as a great fit with much of what they stand for and are proud to be part of Neighbours Day.

Wondering what Neighbours day Aotearoa is all about? In a nutshell, it’s about getting neighbours connected, having fun and making friends close to home.

Public Libraries of New Zealand is proud to support Neighbours Day Aotearoa. We work with partners all over New Zealand to encourage neighbours to connect and to celebrate successful neighbourhood participation.
